AI and Artistic Integrity

I use modern tools in my workflow, including limited AI-based features, to streamline technical tasks and refine final images. What doesn’t change: every portrait is guided by my artistic eye, created with real people, real light, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Because of my painterly style, some viewers assume my work is AI-generated. It is not. I am a hands-on artist who has spent years refining my craft and visual voice.

I do not use Generative AI for creating my art.

This page explains what I do, what I don’t do, and what you can expect.

The Basics

Your session is photographed in-camera by me.

My editing style is intentional, consistent, and human-led.

AI may be used for cleanup, not to invent something new.

AI may be used to make technical tasks more efficient.

AI is not used to invent people, features, or moments.

Clients or viewers may not upload, process, modify or otherwise use licensed or marketed images in connection with any AI platform or tool.

Some tools within Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop incorporate AI to assist with specific editing tasks. These tools use the existing image as a reference and do not generate new artwork.

What AI may be used for

  • Removing temporary distractions (blemishes, lint, flyaways, background clutter)

  • Background cleanup that does not alter identity (outlets, wrinkles, lighting equipment)

  • Selecting subjects or backgrounds for precise adjustments

  • Minor technical refinements that improve efficiency without changing authenticity

I do not use AI for

  • Generating new faces, bodies, or altered physical features

  • Changing expressions in a way that alters who someone is

  • Creating moments that did not happen

  • Changing lighting, clothing, location or props

Compositing vs. Generative AI

AI-generated imagery is created by software producing new visuals from prompts or datasets.

Compositing is different. It is a traditional artistic technique used in both painting and photography, where multiple real images are intentionally combined into one finished piece.

In my work:

  • Multiple frames may be blended for expression or technical precision

  • Any added elements come from photographs I captured or ethically sourced imagery (stock, Creative Commons)

Nothing is generated from a prompt.

If a portrait includes compositing, it is a deliberate, handcrafted process rooted in real photography and guided by my artistic vision.

Your privacy

Holly Lund is the sole editor of images created by Holly Lund Imagery.

Your images are stored only on Holly Lund Imagery devices and secure private cloud systems. They are not uploaded to generative AI platforms and are not provided for AI training purposes.

If you grant permission for marketing use (website, social media, publications), images may be subject to the terms and conditions of the platforms on which they are shared.

Artistic protection

To protect the integrity of my work and copyright, images may not be uploaded to, processed by, or modified through any artificial intelligence or generative AI platform, by clients or otherwise. This includes AI tools embedded in social media apps, editing software, or design platforms.

When you commission me, you are licensing finished artwork. That license does not include the right to alter, reinterpret, create additional images, or run the images through AI systems. Images shared by Holly Lund Imagery for marketing purposes are also protected by this restriction.

This protects your likeness. It also protects the authorship and artistic intent behind every photograph.
